Yolanda graduated from Lakehead University with an HBA in Political Science in 1998. Deeply committed to lifelong learning she is currently enrolled in Lakehead University Masters of Education Program. Yolanda is employed with Dilico Anishinabek Family Care as the Integrated Policy Officer. She is responsible for conducting research and analysis of local, provincial and national policies, programs and initiatives affecting the health and well-being of Anishinabek children and families.
Previously, she worked at Lakehead University in the Office of Aboriginal Initiatives, serving in the area of student support, retention and graduation. She offered a strong sense of community involvement to Lakehead and enthusiastically served on several university, local, and regional committees.
Yolanda has a diverse background of experience in areas of Aboriginal governance and politics, serving as her First Nation Band Councilor. Other experiences include social work, health and remote tourism. The many years spent in northern Ontario have laid the foundation for a profound interest in the north and the challenges and rewards faced by the many sectors Yolanda has been a part of through the years.
A wife and mother and outside of work, she can be found spending time with family, running, cycling, reading and spending time in the outdoors. Yolanda has a special affinity for storytelling and learning with, from and by others through their story.
