The three immediate past presidents – Rob Jamieson, Bill Keeler, and David Heroux – were given special varsity jackets on behalf of the University by Murray Walberg, Chair of Lakehead University’s Board of Governors.

Mark Tilbury, another past president and the current director of alumni and community relations, was presented with a jacket later in the week. The gift of the jackets was especially appropriate since it coincided with the launch of Lakehead’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

The Alumni Association has played a special role in the development of the University. First formed as the Alma Mater Society (A.M.S.) in 1965, Lakehead’s founding year, its members have been enthusiastic Lakehead advocates and supporters.

In the 1965 Nor’Wester Yearbook, the first A.M.S. President, Carol Bell, proclaimed, “We, as students, have been intimately involved in this exciting process of growth – a process which has created in each of us an intense pride for our Alma Mater and a growing dedication to the motto ‘Ad augusta per angusta.’”

Today, the Alumni Association provides a supportive Alumni Community where our members have opportunities to engage, celebrate, and share.
