2017 Alumni Homecoming Weekend

On behalf of the Alumni Association of Lakehead University, we were thrilled to host alumni, family, and friends during this past weekend's Homecoming festivities.

Those who attended enjoyed an inspirational Alumni Awards Dinner, exciting varsity sports action, intimate and interactive reunions, and the honouring of our dedicated athletes.  But more importantly, we all shared and celebrated with family and friends our time at Lakehead University. To those of you that were unable to attend, we were sorry to have missed you!

We invite you all to take the time to view and enjoy our Homecoming Weekend photo gallery.  In the meantime, mark your calendars and join us for next year's festivities, to be held September 27-29, 2018!

Sleeping Giant Brewery social

On Thursday August 17, 2017, over 100 Lakehead University alumni came out to Sleeping Giant Brewery to enjoy an exclusive craft brewery experience right in our hometown.  Special thanks goes out to the Sleeping Giant staff who worked hard making sure everyone was served quickly and for providing the informative tours of the facility.  Thanks also to everyone who attended - with your support we were able to raise $2,000 towards the Lakehead Annual Fund - financial support that goes directly to our students.

Success Through Giving

On March 23, Lakehead University hosted a luncheon that brought together students who have received bursaries or awards and the donors who have supported them.

Students had the opportunity to thank the donors who have assisted them and share how these contributions have impacted their education and university experience. For many students, these bursaries and awards have made their education dreams a reality.

The luncheon was hosted by Deb Comuzzi, Lakehead Vice-President, External Relations with remarks from David Tamblyn, Chair of the Lakehead University Board of Governors, and Dr. Michel Beaulieu, President of the Alumni Association of Lakehead University.

One of the highlights of the event was the launch of a special Success Through Giving video featuring student recipients of donor-funded awards:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvLn8mRmGGQ

Thank you to Patricia Vo, Ryan Venn, Jocelyn Bel, Sarah Dyce, Julia Ieropoli, Katherine Beaulieu, and Josh Levac, Manager, Student Awards and Financial Aid for participating in the video.

Success Through Giving was a wonderful opportunity to gather as a Lakehead community and celebrate the generosity of our donors and the successes of the student that they have supported. Giving at every level counts, no matter the size of the contribution.

2016/2017 Varsity Season Photo Gallery

We had a blast this year welcoming so many supporters to our Varsity away games.  We were blown away, community by community, at the number of alumni, friends, and family members who came out to cheer on our beloved Thunderwolves.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

We wanted everyone to know how much the coaches and players appreciated your support.  Having fans in the stands can be a tremendous advantage for a visiting team.  In fact, at our November Thunderwolves hockey game in Waterloo, there were more Lakehead fans than hometown ones!  When we scored our first goal, the athletes on both teams were shocked by the cheers from the stands.  The coaches and players also enjoyed the opportunity to interact with many of you before, during and after the games.

We were excited to visit Toronto, Guelph, Hamilton, Kingston, Sudbury, North Bay, Waterloo and Ottawa.

There were conversations with many people throughout the varsity season that were illuminating to us.  They asked us questions about our athletes and what kind of support our teams need.  They recognized that away games for our Thunderwolves are not as simple as taking a bus to the town next door.

They asked us to get back to them with how alumni could help.  We listened.

Should you decide to help our dedicated student athletes, here’s how you can make a one-time gift on our secure online giving page here or you can learn more about becoming a monthly donor online here.

With either option, you can designate your gift to a specific team, or to our Athletics Program in general.  Simply type your preference into the box upon selecting "Other"

We’re going to be back with an even more ambitious schedule of engagement in collaboration with our varsity teams.  Keep an eye on your Inbox starting in September.  See you next season.

Meet and Greet at The Foundry

A fantastic evening of socializing and networking was held on January 25th for our Thunder Bay alumni! Over 80 people registered to attend and packed the upper level of city's popular Foundry Pub.  Grads from over the decades and Lakehead's many disciplines mingled and reminisced about their time at university, and shared with us their desire to meet up again!

Many thanks to all those who made it out and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!

GTA Alumni cheer on Thunderwolves @ Ryerson

A record-breaking 90 Lakehead University alumni came out to cheer on the Thunderwolves basketball teams as they faced-off against the Ryerson Rams on January 6th, 2017.  While they played hard and fought tirelessly, they fell short with a 88-64 loss.  Although they didn't win, the team coaches and athletes very much appreciated our large and cheerful fans!

We return to the Mattamy Centre on Thursday. February 2nd as the Thunderwolves are in town to face the Rams in varsity hockey action, Saturday, February 4th in Waterloo against the Waterloo Warriors, and Saturday, February 11th in Guelph, ON in basketball games against the Guelph Gryphons.  Families are welcome!  Visit alumni.lakeheadu.ca for details!

The 2016 Alumni Summer Tour

If there is an opportunity to engage and celebrate with our Alumni- we'll take it!  That was the case over the summer of 2016- one we affectionately refer to as "The 2016 Alumni Summer Tour."  Check out some of our photos we took during our national (and sometimes international!) adventures.  Enjoy!
